Tournament Champions
The Sugarbush Classic wrapped up on May 11 in Davison, Michigan, with another great day of competition across five divisions of stroke play golf. Players battled through a competitive field and several dramatic finishes to continue an outstanding tournament season.
The course conditions and scenery added even more to the experience, with players spotting all kinds of wildlife throughout the day — from several deer roaming the course, to a raccoon making an appearance, and even bald eagles perched in the trees surrounding the lake.
In Division 1, Joe Mills captured the win with a strong performance throughout the round.
Division 2 saw Rick Williamson make the trip from Ohio pay off, taking home the division title with steady play from start to finish.
The closest regulation battle of the day came in Division 3, where Kevin Vandewoestyne edged out John Lyszczyk by just one shot on the final hole. The two players entered the last hole tied, but Kevin was able to pull ahead to secure the victory in dramatic fashion. Despite another impressive showing, John continues one of the most remarkable streaks of the season, finishing runner-up in all five tournaments so far this year.
John Lyszczyk was also able to bounce back and claim the Mid-Am Net title, narrowly edging out Division 5 player Dylan Harris in another close competition.
Division 4 needed extra holes to decide a winner, as David Gerlach defeated Dan Patterson on the very first playoff hole to earn his first-ever tournament victory — in what was also his first-ever competition round. Even more exciting, every player in Division 4 this week competed as a guest and not a current tour member, showing the growing interest and competitiveness of the tour.
Division 5 was won by Ryan Darling, another Ohio native who made the trip north worthwhile by bringing home the division title with a strong showing. Darling also captured the Senior Net title in dramatic fashion, edging out fellow Ohio golfer Rick Williamson on the final hole to secure another victory on the day.
A huge thank you to Sugarbush and their incredible staff for making everyone feel right at home throughout the entire event. Their hospitality, course conditions, and welcoming atmosphere made this tournament a memorable stop on the schedule — and one we will absolutely be returning to again next year.
