On Sunday, July 12th, the New Jersey Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour traveled to Oak Ridge, New Jersey, for an outstanding day of championship golf at the highly acclaimed Berkshire Valley Golf Course for the Highlands Challenge. A full field of 50 competitors teed it up across five divisions, on one of the Garden State’s premier public golf courses. Players were greeted with warm summer temperatures, bright skies, and a light breeze that provided ideal scoring conditions while still demanding their very best. With valuable Player of the Year points on the line, the stage was set for another exciting chapter in the 2026 New Jersey APT season.

Consistently ranked among New Jersey’s top public golf courses, Berkshire Valley Golf Course provided a true championship challenge from start to finish. Designed by Roger Rulewich, the course winds through the rolling hills of Morris County and features dramatic elevation changes, immaculate bentgrass fairways and greens, strategically placed bunkers, and natural rock outcroppings that frame many of its memorable holes. While the pristine conditions and picturesque setting make Berkshire Valley one of the state’s most enjoyable venues, the layout rewards precision and smart course management, testing every club in the bag. Its combination of natural beauty, exceptional conditioning, and championship-caliber design made it a fitting venue for another memorable stop on the New Jersey Amateur Players Tour schedule.

With strong competition from start to finish, players had plenty to play for at Berkshire Valley. The event featured $840 in Division Skins and Super Skins payouts, while $2300 in total prize money was awarded across Divisions 1–5, as well as the Mid-Am Net and Senior Net competitions. Every division saw closely contested battles and impressive performances throughout the day.

    Division 1

Division 1 featured a talented field of three competitors, highlighted by Charles Lee, who entered the event fresh off his first Amateur Players Tour victory at Crystal Springs. Joining him was the 2026 five-time New Jersey APT Divion 1 champion Adam Fuchs, currently ranked 36th nationally, along with Kyle Lisa, making his second start of the New Jersey APT season.

Fuchs wasted little time reminding the field why he’s one of the chapter’s premier players. A steady opening nine of 1-over-par 37 gave him a commanding four-shot advantage at the turn over both Lee and Lisa, who each carded 5-over 41

The back nine belonged to Fuchs as he continued to pull away from the field with consistent, mistake-free golf. Lisa battled his way to a runner-up finish with a 9-over-par 80, while Fuchs closed with an even-par back nine to finish at 1-over-par 72, earning his sixth New Jersey Amateur Players Tour victory in impressive fashion.

    Division 2

Division 2 featured one of the strongest fields of the day, with twelve competitors battling for the championship. The spotlight was on Adam Gamble, a three-time New Jersey Amateur Players Tour winner who entered the event leading the Division 2 Local Player of the Year race and ranked 74th nationally. Close behind him in the season standings were Kevin Park in second place and Roy Choi in third, setting the stage for another exciting showdown among the division’s top contenders.

The front nine lived up to the hype as Gamble and Choi matched each other shot for shot, making the turn tied at 2-over-par 38Park remained well within striking distance after posting a 4-over-par 40, keeping the pressure on the leaders heading to the back nine.

As the round unfolded, the leaderboard continued to tighten. Peter Iosso made a late charge with an impressive 2-over-par back nine, climbing into fourth place with a final score of 9-over-par 80

With just three holes to play, Gamble held a narrow lead over Park, while Choi remained within striking distance. Gamble encountered trouble coming home, carding a bogey on the 16th hole followed by a double bogey on the 17th, giving the field an opportunity to steal the victory. Choi appeared poised to capitalize but was unable to take advantage, finishing with back-to-back double bogeys that dropped him to third place at 8-over-par 79

Meanwhile, Park quietly put together a solid closing stretch, posting one of the best back-nine scores in the division to finish runner-up at 7-over-par 78. Despite the late hiccups, Gamble’s strong play throughout the day proved enough to hold on for the title, finishing at 5-over-par 76 to earn his second consecutive New Jersey Amateur Players Tour victory

    Division 3

Division 3 featured the largest and arguably deepest field of the day, with 15 competitors battling for the championship. As the players made the turn, the leaderboard was packed. Troy Isaksen Sr. held a slim one-shot advantage after an opening 5-over-par 41Rich Guillod III sat just one stroke back at 6-over-par 42, while Richard GuillodRich Zoon, and JP Vincenti were all tied at 7-over-par 43Gary Greener remained well within striking distance after carding an 8-over-par 44

With several players still in contention, the back nine was set up for an exciting finish. However, Richard Guillod quickly separated himself from the field with one of the best closing nines of the tournament. His impressive 1-over-par 36 vaulted him to a final score of 8-over-par 79, securing the Division 3 championship in convincing fashion.

The battle for runner-up honors proved to be just as exciting. Four playersIsaksen Sr., Raymond Van NessGreener, and Zoon—finished the day tied at 16-over-par 87creating a four-way tie for second place and highlighting just how competitive Division 3 was from start to finish.

    Division 4

Division 4 featured another highly competitive field of twelve players, with the leaderboard tightly packed throughout the day. At one point, just seven strokes separated the leader from sixth place, while only three strokes separated the players occupying third place. Every shot mattered as the field battled for the championship at Berkshire Valley

After the front nine, David Conforth held a narrow one-shot lead after posting a 5-over-par 41Sal Leto was close behind at 6-over-par 42, while Kevin Stevick and Illyas Sarwari were both well within striking distance after matching 7-over-par 43s

The championship came down to the closing holes. A bogey by Conforth on the 17th opened the door for Stevick, who stepped onto the 18th tee with a one-shot advantage. Needing only to match or better Conforth’s score on the final hole to claim the title, the pressure was on. Conforth responded with a clutch par, while Stevick was unable to hold on, carding a costly double bogey that swung the championship back in Conforth’s favor.

Conforth finished at 11-over-par 82 to capture the Division 4 title, while Stevick settled for runner-up honors at 12-over-par 83 after a hard-fought round. Meanwhile, James Hoodja put together one of the strongest closing nines in the division, firing a 5-over-par 40 on the back to earn solo third place.

    Division 5

Division 5 featured a competitive field of eight players, but as the round unfolded, the championship became a head-to-head battle between David Davidson and Peter KratzelKratzel came out firing on the front nine, carding a solid 4-over-par 40 to build a four-shot advantage over Davidson, who turned at 8-over-par 44

The challenging back nine at Berkshire Valley quickly tightened the race. While Kratzel struggled to maintain his early momentum, posting a 13-over-par 48Davidson stayed steady with a matching 8-over-par 44 to erase the deficit and set up a dramatic finish.

By the time the pair reached the 17th hole, they were tied atop the leaderboard. Davidson seized the momentum with a clutch par, while Kratzel could only manage a bogey, giving Davidson a one-shot lead heading to the final hole.

Needing to gain a stroke on Davidson to force a playoff, Kratzel had one last opportunity on the 18th. However, both players made bogey, allowing Davidson to hold on for a hard-earned one-shot victory. Davidson claimed the Division 5 championship with a final score of 16-over-par 87, while Kratzel finished runner-up at 17-over-par 88 after an exciting back-and-forth battle that wasn’t decided until the final putt.

Mid-Am Net – Fourteen players competed in the Mid-Am Net Competition ages 49 years and yonger, creating another closely contested battle within the championship. Daniel Kim and Rich Guillod III each finished tied for runner-up honors with matching Net Scores of 6-over-par 77.

However, the day belonged to Illyas Sarwari, whose outstanding performance produced an even-par Net Score of 71. His exceptional play earned him the title of Mid-Am Net Champion in convincing fashion.

Senior Net – The Senior Net Competition featured an outstanding field of 20 players aged 50 and over, all competing for one of the day’s most prestigious side-game titles. With several exceptional net rounds posted throughout the day, the leaderboard remained tightly contested until the final scores were recorded.

Sal Leto finished in seventh place with a Net =Score of 1-under-par 70, while David Davidson and Mel Portalatin shared fifth place after each carding impressive Net Scores of 3-under-par 68

Third place resulted in a three-way tie, as Richard GuillodDavid Conforth, and Peter Kratzel each turned in outstanding Net Scores of 6-under-par 65

Claiming the Senior Net Championship was Kevin Stevick, whose remarkable Net Score of 7-under-par 64 topped the field and earned him the title in impressive fashion.
