Tournament Champions
Storm clouds hovered all day, but the Houston APT field pressed on at South Shore Harbour’s Harbour to South Course, turning a rain-soaked round into a grind for every division.
Division 1 - Jason Hawthorne came out firing, carding a front-nine 35 (-1) with four birdies to set the early pace. Jarrod Brown stayed within striking distance at even-par 36. As the rain picked up on the back, Brown shifted into control mode, matching par again to post 72 and edge out the win.
Division 2 - Birmingham’s Matthew Bankston made the trip count. Birdies on 7 and 9 helped him to a 35 (-1) on the front, with Darien Duhon two shots back at 37 (+2). Bankston added another birdie at 10 and weathered a tougher back nine, finishing at 75 (+3), which held up for the victory.
Division 3 - Mark Gonzales opened with a steady 37 (+1) to lead early, while Eddie Waite and Mal Bradley sat five back. Conditions worsened on the back, but Bradley stayed composed, posting 43 (+7) to finish at 85 (+13) and claim a two-shot win. Gonzales settled for second at 87 (+15).
Division 4 - Steven Courtney set the tone with back-to-back birdies on 4 and 5 en route to a 35 (-1). Devin Snyder trailed at 41 (+5). Mark Miller made a late push, highlighted by a birdie on 17, pulling within one. Courtney held firm despite a tough back nine, finishing at 84 (+12) to win by one. Miller took second at 85 (+13).
Division 5 - Tom Tribble took control early with a 42 (+6) on the front, with Muhammad Qadir chasing at 45 (+9). Tribble never let up, adding a 45 on the back to finish at 87 (+15) and secure a comfortable win. Jeff Henry closed strong with three straight pars to take second at 94 (+22).
Mid-Am Net – Muhammad Qadir captured his third Mid-Am net title with a 75 (+3).
Senior Net - Tom Tribble added another trophy with a 69 (-3). Darren Pickering followed at 74 (+2), while Darien Duhon and Rick Pritchard shared third at 77 (+5).
