Cedar Crest Recap
Division 1 featured some excellent scoring, and in the end Jonathon Newman separated himself from the field with a strong 5-under-par round to earn a three-shot victory.
Newman’s day did not start perfectly with a bogey on the opening hole, but he settled in quickly and never looked rattled. He answered with back-to-back birdies on 2 and 3, then made the biggest move of the round with an eagle on the 5th hole. From there he stayed in control, adding birdies on 8, 11, and 18 while playing steady golf the rest of the way to close out the win.
Cory Henley finished alone in second at 2-under par after putting together a round that had plenty of momentum. His highlight came at the 10th hole, where he made an eagle that briefly tightened the leaderboard. Henley also added birdies on 5, 8, 12, 13, and 18, but a few costly holes on the back nine kept him from making a stronger push.
The battle for third ended in a tie at even par between Robert Sain and Andrew Jacobson. Sain finished his round in memorable fashion with an eagle on 18, while Jacobson’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the 2nd and several key birdies that kept him near the top throughout the day.
Division 2 came down to the wire, with Kevin Ingram, Tim Ewing, and Eric Fleming all finishing regulation at 1-under par and heading into a three-man playoff.
Ingram earned the win in quick fashion, making a par on the first playoff hole, which proved to be enough to secure the title after both Ewing and Fleming were unable to match it.
During regulation, Ingram’s round was built on steady, controlled play. He picked up birdies on 3, 5, and 11, offsetting a couple of bogeys along the way, and positioned himself well by avoiding any big mistakes. His ability to stay composed paid off when it mattered most in the playoff.
Ewing also turned in a solid round to earn his spot in the playoff. His birdies on 5, 13, and 15 kept him in contention throughout the day, and he had opportunities late to separate but ultimately settled for a share of second after the playoff.
Fleming’s round may have been the most dynamic of the three. He came out strong with birdies on 2, 3, and 5, then added an eagle on the 10th hole to make a serious push up the leaderboard. A few bogeys on the back nine kept things tight, but his early scoring was enough to get him into the playoff.
Division 3 turned into a tight two-man battle at the top, with Todd Osinski and James Heath both finishing at 3-over par and heading to a playoff to decide the winner.
After matching each other on the first extra hole, Osinski secured the victory with a par on the second playoff hole, outlasting Heath in a back-and-forth contest.
Osinski’s round was built on steady play and minimizing mistakes. His lone birdie came on the 5th hole, and from there he stayed consistent, avoiding any big numbers and keeping his card under control. That patience ultimately paid off when he delivered in the playoff.
Heath’s round was a bit more eventful, featuring birdies on 3, 5, 7, and 10 that kept him right at the top of the leaderboard throughout the day. He had stretches where he looked poised to pull away, but a few late bogeys brought him back to even with Osinski and sent the match into extra holes.
Alex Richardson finished in third at 5-over par, putting together a solid round that included birdies on 5, 14, and 16. He stayed within reach for much of the day but finished just short of joining the playoff.
Ty Rhodes rounded out the top four at 8-over par. His highlight came with an eagle on the 10th hole, which gave him a boost during the round, but a few difficult holes on the back nine kept him from climbing higher.
Division 4 came down to a narrow finish, with Mack Walters edging the field by a single shot after posting 7-over par to claim the win.
Walters built his round with a strong start, making birdies on 3, 4, and 5 to give himself early momentum. That stretch proved to be the difference. Even though the back nine tested him with a few late bogeys, he had done enough early to stay just ahead and close out the victory.
Alex Garcia finished one shot back in second at 8-over par. Garcia played one of the steadiest rounds in the field, keeping big mistakes off the card and making his lone birdie on the 11th hole. He stayed within striking distance all afternoon, but Walters’ fast start left him just short at the finish.
Third place ended in a three-way tie at 9-over par between Thomas Jones II, Wade Williams, and Wyatt Lovell.
Jones made birdies on 4, 5, and 18, showing resilience throughout the round despite a few costly holes in the middle. Williams had one of the more up-and-down rounds of the day, mixing birdies on 2, 6, and 8 with several swings in momentum that kept him in the top group. Lovell also stayed in the hunt all day, highlighted by a birdie on the 10th, and his steady finish earned him a share of third.
Division 5 saw Trentt Blackburn put together the best round of the day, finishing at 7-over par to earn a five-shot victory.
Blackburn’s round was built on a strong middle stretch where he made birdies on 4, 8, and 9, giving him the separation he needed from the field. While Cedar Crest made sure there were still a few bumps along the way, he stayed composed and managed the course well enough down the stretch to comfortably secure the win.
Tied for second at 12-over par were Jimmy Murphy and Joe Smolira, who each found their way into the runner-up spot with very different rounds.
Murphy made his move with birdies on 10 and 12, keeping himself in the mix despite a few difficult holes late in the round. Smolira, meanwhile, relied on steady play throughout the day, limiting major mistakes and grinding his way to a share of second with a consistent card from start to finish.
The Mid-Am Net division finished with James Heath posting the low round of the day at 6-under net to take the win.
Shawn Coleman finished alone in second at 4-under net, also turning in a strong round.
The Senior Net division came down to a close finish, with Eric Fleming posting 7-under net to earn a one-shot victory.
Just one shot back, Joe Smolira finished alone in second at 6-under net after a strong round of his own.
The battle for third ended in a tie at 4-under net between Todd Osinski and Bruce Gordon, with both players turning in solid rounds to round out a competitive top group.
