Hernandez and Kivisto Lead the Way at McNary
Golfers had to bring their most accurate games on July 11 when APT Portland teed off at McNary Golf Club in Keizer, Oregon. With water on 11 holes, tight fairways, and demanding greens, a ball hit just a few yards off line could quickly lead to double bogey.
Despite the demanding setup, Domingo Hernandez and Robert Kivisto didn’t let anything stand in their way, each winning in dominant fashion.
Division Breakdown
It was a special day for Brahyam Merlin in Division 2, who earned his first APT victory in just his second year on the circuit. He opened with pars on his first three holes and played the par 5s at one under par, cruising to victory with a +9, 80.
Domingo Hernandez went into the back nine tied with Nirmal Shrestha but turned on the jets over the closing holes to finish six strokes ahead of his closest competitor in Division 3. His +12, 83 round was highlighted by birdies on the 2nd and 5thhandicap holes, Holes 3 and 14.
Division 4 was another runaway victory as Robert Kivisto opened with seven pars on the front nine and sealed the deal on his round with a birdie on the 18th. His +9, 80 earned him his third victory of the year.
Like the other winners at McNary Golf Club, Brian Anderson used a strong front nine to set himself up for victory in Division 5. He made four pars on the opening nine and finished at +22, 93. It was a breakthrough win for Anderson, who had collected three runner-up finishes earlier this season.
It wasn’t the same level of domination as in Division 3 as it was in the Mid-Amateur Net Division, but Domingo Hernandez still walked away from round with a three-stroke victory over Brahyam Merlin after carding a net –1, 70. Both of his gross birdies turned into net eagles, and three additional net birdies put him too far ahead for anyone to catch.
Robert Kivisto continued his impressive day with an eight-shot victory in the Senior Net Division, shooting a net 5-under 66. He made five net birdies over the final six holes of the front nine before punctuating the stellar round with a net eagle on the 18th.
