Seattle Amateur Players Tour Recap: High Cedars Golf Club

The Amateur Players Tour Seattle chapter made its way to High Cedars Golf Club on Saturday, May 16, bringing a competitive western Washington field to Orting for another important stop in the Seattle Player of the Year race. Players from Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Olympia, the Eastside, and across the Puget Sound battled a full slate of divisions on a course that rewards steady ball-striking, patient decision-making, and the ability to keep mistakes from compounding.

High Cedars, located in Orting, offers a full public golf facility with its championship course, executive course, practice facility, and simulator offerings, making it a familiar competitive stop for golfers throughout the South Sound and greater Seattle golf community. (highcedars.com)

In Division 1, Jeremy Kim controlled the day with a steady round of 76 to claim the victory. Kim separated himself from Brandon Swank, who finished second with an 85. It was a strong performance from Kim, who handled the test at High Cedars and gave himself another quality finish in the early Seattle season.

Division 2 produced one of the strongest storylines of the weekend as Kevin Murray matched his career-best round with a 73 to beat a crowded and talented field. Murray’s win came against a division that included 2024 North American Champion Andrew Black, making the victory even more impressive. Murray finished two shots clear of Brandon Paul Weaver, who posted a 75, while Joe Christ-Kim took third with a 77. Black finished fourth at 78, with Lee Caton and Alex Lee tied for fifth at 79. In a division where one loose stretch could quickly change the leaderboard, Murray stayed composed and earned one of the statement wins of the Seattle season.

In Division 3, Scott Boyd broke through for his first win of the season, posting an 82 to edge a tight group chasing behind him. Boyd’s victory also gives him an important move in the Seattle Player of the Year race as the season begins to take shape. Nick Girard and Corey Bayless finished one shot back at 83, keeping pressure on Boyd all the way to the finish. Joe Valladares took fourth with an 84, while Carlos Bustos rounded out the top five with an 87.

Division 4 delivered a strong come-from-behind performance from Harsha Yellamareddygari, who posted an 84 to claim the crown. Yellamareddygari stayed patient and closed the door late, finishing two shots ahead of Lee Martin, who took second with an 86. Mark Hewitt finished third at 89, while Ghanshyam Patel took fourth with a 90. David Nam rounded out the top five with a 92 in another division where every shot mattered.

In Division 5, Jeffery Green earned the win with a 91, edging newcomer Brett McGinnis by two shots. McGinnis made an immediate impression with a runner-up finish at 93, while Pete Valladares finished third with a 95. Miguel Carrillotook fourth with a 97, and Bryan Ferguson rounded out the division in fifth.

The Senior Net division saw Harsha Yellamareddygari add another title to his day, firing a net 73 to finish one shot ahead of Lee Caton at 74. Mark Hewitt and Jeffery Green tied for third at 75, while Ghanshyam Patel and Lee Martin finished tied for fifth at 76.

In Mid-Am Net, Kevin Murray completed a standout day with a net 69, finishing two-under and taking the title. Brandon Paul Weaver finished second with a net 71, while Scott BoydJoe Christ-Kim, and Thomas Ferguson tied for third with net 72s.

Next up, the Amateur Players Tour Seattle chapter heads to Chambers Bay, one of the most recognized championship venues in the Pacific Northwest. Chambers Bay hosted the 2010 U.S. Amateur and the 2015 U.S. Open, and its links-style design continues to hold major championship pedigree with future USGA championships scheduled, including the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2027, U.S. Amateur Four-Ball in 2028, and U.S. Amateur in 2033.
