Duel in the Desert @ Desert Princess Country Club

Results & Recap – Cathedral City, CA

The Desert Section wrapped up its inaugural season in style at Desert Princess Country Club in Cathedral City, where players were greeted with ideal scoring conditions from the opening tee shot. Sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the mid-80s created a perfect desert golf atmosphere, leading many players to believe low scores were within reach. While the resort-style layout offered plenty of scoring opportunities, the course still demanded sharp course management and rewarded disciplined shot-making throughout the day.

The season finale delivered everything you could ask for, including dramatic finishes, playoff golf, first-time winners, and some of the lowest scores of the season, with Division 4 producing one of the most impressive performances of the day.

    Let’s get to the action…

    Division 1

Division 1 ended in dramatic fashion as Raymond Warner (Murrieta, CA) and Cam Winslow (Desert Hot Springs, CA) battled their way through a tightly contested round before finishing tied with scores of 82. Both players fought through stretches of inconsistent play during regulation but managed to stay within striking distance throughout the day. The tournament ultimately moved to a playoff, where Warner rose to the occasion. On the very first playoff hole, he calmly secured a par to edge out Winslow and capture the Division 1 victory in exciting fashion.

    Division 2

Division 2 produced some of the best golf of the entire tournament, led by Bud Vogt (Menifee, CA), who posted the low round of the day across all divisions with an outstanding score of 74. Vogt set the tone early with a birdie on #1 and added another on #11, combining aggressive scoring with steady play throughout his round. Kyle Cardoza (Tustin, CA) earned second place with a score of 78, highlighted by a birdie on #16, while Troy Shedeed (Murrieta, CA) finished third after carding a 79 and birdieing #13. Shedeed also added a Closest to the Pin win on #12, continuing a strong all-around performance.

    Division 3

Division 3 remained tightly packed from start to finish, with the leaderboard shifting throughout the day before finally settling late on the back nine. Dave Davidson (Rancho Cucamonga, CA)emerged victorious with a winning score of 81, pairing steady play with a Closest to the Pin shot on #7 that finished just 4 feet, 11 inches from the hole. David Raffety (Fallbrook, CA) finished just one shot behind at 82, closing his round in memorable fashion by chipping in from approximately 50 feet for birdie on #18. Third place ended in a tie between Zack Jellsey (Eastvale, CA)and Mario Uribe (Redlands, CA), who both posted scores of 83. Jellsey recorded one of the hottest scorecards of the division with birdies on #1, #8, and #16, helping keep him near the top of the leaderboard all afternoon.

    Division 4

Division 4 delivered one of the strongest collective performances of the entire season finale, featuring low scores and birdies throughout the pairing. Brad Forsyth (Alta Loma, CA) led the charge with an impressive winning score of 77, one of the best rounds of the tournament. Forsyth also captured Closest to the Pin on #17 and added birdies on #10, #15, and #17 during a dominant back-nine performance. Roberto Covarrubias (Altadena, CA) secured second place with a strong round of 80, highlighted by birdies on #2 and #14, while Thomas Meagher (Palm Desert, CA) continued his solid season with an impressive 81 to take third place. Meagher came out firing early with birdies on #1 and #5. In total, the Division 4 pairing combined for seven birdies, making it one of the most entertaining and impressive groups of the day and a great showcase to close out the Desert Section’s inaugural season.

    Division 5

Division 5 saw David Cavanaugh (San Bernardino, CA) break through for his first victory of the season after putting together a steady round of 90 at Desert Princess. Cavanaugh gained momentum on the back nine with a birdie on #11, giving him the edge he needed down the stretch to hold off the field. Visitor Paul Bobleaga (Las Vegas, NV) stayed within striking distance throughout the round and finished runner-up with a 92, highlighted by a birdie on #12. Eddy Moore (Menifee, CA) rounded out the division in third place with a 94, adding a birdie on #10 during another solid showing to close out the season.
