Tournament Champions
The Cincinnati/Dayton Amateur Players Tour opened its 2027 season on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at Urbana Country Club in Urbana, Ohio, with a joint stop alongside the Columbus chapter. A field of 66 players contested five divisions plus two net games at one of the fall’s marquee Cincinnati amateur golf tournaments, with players flighted into divisions based on their APT Tournament Index.
Known as “The Original Dye Course,” Urbana Country Club provided a fantastic setting and a great test of golf for the 67 competitors. The par-72 layout was presented in outstanding condition, with quick greens doing most of the defending. The par-3 7th was the sternest hole on the property, surrendering no birdies all day and playing better than a shot over par, while the par-4 2nd gave up exactly one. The par-5 17th was the one real scoring opportunity, yielding an eagle and eight birdies.
The weather was perfect from the first tee time onward, which left the greens as the only real obstacle between a good swing and a good number.
In Division 1, Cameron Buse of Louisville, Kentucky captured the title with a 1-under 71, the low round of the day, and he did it by a single stroke. Buse made seven birdies, turned in even-par 36 and came home in 1-under 35, closing with birdies at the par-5 17th and the par-4 18th. It was a battle to the finish in the eight-player division, with three players sharing runner-up honors at even-par 72. Dustin Fields of Xenia, Ohio eagled the par-5 11th and played the inward half in 1-under 35; Levi Keith of Elizabethtown, Kentucky was level with Buse through twelve holes and still only one back with three to play before matching that 1-under 35 inward nine; and Andrew Buse of Louisville posted even-par 36 on each nine with five birdies of his own. Ben Palmer of Parkersburg, West Virginia rounded out the top-5 with an excellent 1-over 73.
Division 2 belonged to Jeremy Roush of Coolville, Ohio, who fired a 1-over 73 in a competitive 12-player division, and his round was enough to hold off the chase by two shots. Roush made eleven pars and three birdies, going out in 1-over 37 and home in even-par 36. Chris Ice of Barnesville, Ohio pushed him hardest, turning in 1-under 35 and sitting just one back after twelve before a 4-over 40 inward nine left him at 3-over 75. Kaiden Evans of Columbus and Timothy Jameson of Ashville, Ohio shared third at 8-over 80, Evans getting there with three straight birdies at the 9th, 10th and 11th.
Division 3 took 18 holes and more to settle. Tom McNerlin of Oak Hill, Ohio, Frank Machesky of Jackson, Ohio and Greg Weaver of Plain City, Ohio all finished on 9-over 81, and McNerlin came through the playoff for the title. McNerlin had been four back through twelve before a 2-over 38 inward nine, built on birdies at the par-3 12th and the par-5 17th, drew him level. Machesky led the group through twelve and answered a 8-over 44 start with 1-over 37 coming home. Weaver was the steadiest of the three, with nine pars on his card.
Richard Navratil of the Cincinnati/Dayton chapter won Division 4 with an 8-over 80, two clear of the field, and the swing came at the par-5 17th, where he made eagle. Charles Meade of Grove City, Ohio was a shot ahead after six and only one adrift at the 15th before signing for 10-over 82. Cody Mulholland of Zanesville, Indiana, Danny Bay of Lancaster, Ohio and Steve Smith of Mechanicsburg, Ohio shared third at 14-over 86.
Division 5 produced the day’s second playoff. Kevin Filby of Lewis Center, Ohio and Lisa Moore of Huntington, West Virginia tied at 18-over 90, with Filby taking the title in extra holes. Moore had been four strokes clear of Filby after six and again after fifteen before the finish brought them together. Doc Sherman of Pleasant City, Ohio took third at 21-over 93.
Navratil completed the double-dip in Mid-Am Net, posting net 6-under 66 for a six-shot win. Brandon Turner of Heath, Ohio was second at net even-par 72, with Filby third at net 2-over 74.
Senior Net ended in a three-way tie at net 2-under 70, with McNerlin, Machesky and Smith sharing the points and the purse. McNerlin’s share made it two titles on the day for the Oak Hill player, while Machesky and Smith each backed up top-three gross finishes.
Next up in the Cincinnati/Dayton chapter — a trip to Country Club of the North on Saturday, November 7th. Space is limited and registration closes November 4th.
