Tournament Champions
The Dallas/Fort Worth Amateur Players Tour opened its 2027 season on Sunday, October 25th at Heritage Ranch Golf & Country Club for a premier amateur golf tournament. A field of 64 players competed across five divisions, with two net games running alongside, launching the chapter’s calendar of DFW amateur golf tournaments with an Elevated Event and over $2,000 in prize money on the line. Players are flighted into divisions based on their APT Tournament Index.
Division 1 produced the low round of the day. Jeremiah Gilbert of Argyle, TX turned in even-par 36 and came home in 1-over 37 for a 1-over 73, winning by two. Gilbert made four birdies on the card — at the par-3 6th, the par-5 8th, the par-5 11th and the par-4 13th — and he was never headed: the race was dead level through six holes, and he held a two-stroke edge through twelve and still had it with three to play. Chase Wickman of Dallas, TX pushed hardest, matching that start with 2-over 38 and then posting the best inward nine of the chasers at 1-over 37, with birdies at the par-3 4th, the par-4 9th and the par-4 13th, for a 3-over 75 and runner-up honors. Andrew Parson of Carrollton, TX and Brad Branch of Southlake, TX shared third at 5-over 77. Parson went out in 1-over 37 with a birdie at the par-4 2nd; Branch made three birdies, at the par-4 7th, the par-4 10th and the par-4 14th, and was the only one of the four to gain ground over the closing stretch. Two players finished within two shots of the lead.
Division 2 belonged to Chad Henry, the St. Louis chapter member from Valley Park, MO, who built his 4-over 76 out of patience: thirteen pars, three bogeys and a lone birdie at the par-3 4th, with matching nines of 2-over 38. Henry shared the lead after six holes with Brett Miller of Castle Rock, CO and Willy Syrquin of Dallas, TX, and never gave it back, stretching the margin to four by the finish. Miller, visiting from the Denver chapter, posted 8-over 80 on the strength of eleven pars and a pair of even nines at 4-over 40 apiece. Syrquin matched him at 8-over 80 with a birdie at the par-4 10th and stayed within two of Henry through fifteen holes. Eryan Ding of Carrollton, TX also signed for 8-over 80, trailing by four after six before coming home in 2-over 38, the best inward nine of the three.
Division 3 came down to a single stroke. Randy Sitz of Prosper, TX went out in 8-over 44 and then flipped the switch, playing the inward nine in 2-over 38 with twelve pars on his card and just three bogeys all day, for a 10-over 82. It was a genuine scrap: Sai Duvvuri of Nashville, TN actually led by one after twelve, and Bryan Jennings of El Reno, OK, in from the Oklahoma City chapter, was level with Sitz through both twelve and fifteen before signing for 11-over 83 and second place. Mark Gonzales of Beaumont, TX, a Houston chapter member, Duvvuri and Scott Prestridge of Bedford, TX all finished at 12-over 84 to share third and round out the money positions. Five players finished within two shots of the winning number.
Division 4 saw Stormy Weaver of Colleyville, TX post the division’s low round, a 10-over 82 built on eleven pars and matching nines of 5-over 41, six clear of anyone else in the flight. Robert La Grace of Lucas, TX took first-place honors at 16-over 88, closing out a round of seven pars after going out in 9-over 45. Andre Fitzpatrick of Weatherford, TX and Rodney Wren of Frisco, TX tied for second at 18-over 90. Fitzpatrick made the turn in 11-over 47 and then found his footing, playing the back in 7-over 43 with a birdie at the par-5 17th; Wren birdied the par-3 4th and the par-5 17th as well.
Division 5 turned late. Gabe Kyei of Southlake, TX trailed by four at the six-hole mark, by five through twelve and still by four with three holes to play, then birdied the par-3 16th on his way to a 19-over 91 and a one-shot win. Stephen Lamb of Garland, TX, who had led for most of the afternoon with birdies at the par-3 6th and the par-4 10th, finished at 20-over 92. Charles Headen III of Dallas, TX and Rick Pritchard of Huntsville, TX, over from the Houston chapter, shared third at 21-over 93, with Pritchard drawing level with Kyei through fifteen before a birdie at the par-4 14th proved his lone gain of the day.
Henry completed the double-dip in Mid-Am Net, adding the net title to his Division 2 win with a net 3-under 69, five clear of the field. Syrquin matched his Division 2 placing with a net 2-over 74 to tie for second alongside Kyei, who backed up his Division 5 win with the same number.
Senior Net went to Jennings, whose net 2-under 70 was good for a two-shot win and a second trophy run on the day after his runner-up finish in Division 3. Pritchard was next at net even-par 72, with Stu Kambury of The Colony, TX third at net 1-over 73. Sitz and Lamb tied for fourth at net 2-over 74, each backing up a strong gross result. Eight players finished within five shots of the lead in the deepest contest of the day.
The golf course picked its spots. The par-4 7th was the sternest test on the card, surrendering just one birdie all day and playing better than a stroke and a quarter over par, while the par-4 10th was the most generous, giving up eight birdies — among them Syrquin’s and Lamb’s.
The chapter donated $80 to Folds of Honor from this event.
Next up in the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter — a trip to Waterchase Golf Club for the Fall Classic on Sunday, November 8th. Space is limited and registration closes October 30th. Winter’s Edge at Fossil Creek follows on Sunday, December 6th, with registration closing November 27th.
