2027 ORL Autumn Chase at Stonegate

[read_time]

For players searching for Orlando amateur golf tournaments or premier Central Florida golf events, the Amateur Players Tour opened its 2027 season on Saturday, October 3rd with the Autumn Chase at Stonegate at Stonegate Golf Club – Oaks. Twenty players filled out the board across five gross divisions and two net contests, the first points of a brand-new season on the line at a par-72 layout that gave up exactly one round in red figures all day.

That round belonged to Matt Ross, and it was the low round of the day. In Division 1, the Brooksville resident turned in 1-under 35, came home in 1-over 37 and signed for an even-par 72 that never once touched a big number — four birdies, ten pars, four bogeys and not a single double on the card. The birdies came in bunches of patience rather than fireworks: the par-4 2nd, the par-4 6th, the par-5 8th and then the par-4 11th just after the turn. A bogey-free closing three holes finished the job.

Division 2 produced the tightest finish on the property. Justin Kreutzer, visiting from the tour’s Birmingham chapter, posted matching nines of 4-over 40 for an 8-over 80 and took the division by a single stroke. He opened with a birdie at the par-5 1st and picked up another at the par-5 14th, leaning on nine pars to hold the line. Allen Moore had the better of the morning, going out in 2-over 38 with birdies at the par-3 4th and the par-5 8th, but a 7-over 43 on the inward half left him a shot short at 9-over 81 despite a birdie at the last. Claudio Rivas collected nine pars of his own on the way to a 13-over 85, playing the closing three holes in even par.

Division 3 belonged to Pat Cronin, in from the Central Pennsylvania chapter, who was the only player in the division to break 80. Cronin went out in 3-over 39 with birdies at the par-5 1st and the par-4 9th, added a third at the par-5 14th and returned a 7-over 79 for a five-shot win. Five players finished within seven shots of him, which says plenty about how bunched the chase was behind the leader — a pair of cards sat together at 86. Mike Scheinman was the closest pursuer with twin nines of 6-over 42 for a 12-over 84, taking second to round out the money positions, while Graham Chancey improved from 8-over 44 on the front to 5-over 41 coming home for a 13-over 85 and third.

Brent Conlon won Division 4 with a 19-over 91 built almost entirely on the back nine. After going out in 12-over 48, the Sanford player steadied to 7-over 43 on the inward half and played the last six holes in 3-over, including a 1-over finish over the closing three. Paul Pimentel finished in 2nd and Brian Eden in 3rd.

Division 5 went the distance. Jim Davis and Patrick LaPage both signed for 21-over 93 and could not be separated in regulation, the title settled beyond the 18th. Davis reached the number with a 9-over 45 on the front, LaPage with an 11-over 47 followed by a 10-over 46 coming in. David Densieski was two back in 3rd at 23-over 95.

The Mid-Am Net game went to Mike Scheinman, whose steady, double-free-until-late ball-striking translated into a net even-par 72 and a two-shot victory — the second trophy line of the day for a player who had already finished runner-up in Division 3. Justin Kreutzer backed up his Division 2 win with a net 2-over 74 in second, and James DiBernardo took third at net 4-over 76, closing in style with a birdie at the par-5 18th to play the last three holes in 1-under.

The Senior Net contest produced the day’s most emphatic margin. Pat Cronin completed the double, adding a net 3-under 69 to his Division 3 title and winning the senior game by eight strokes — the only player in either net contest to finish under par. Behind him came a three-way logjam at net 5-over 77, with Allen Moore, David Densieski and Jim Davis all signing for the same number to share second and round out the money positions. For Davis, it was a second strong result on the day after his Division 5 playoff win.

The Orlando chapter’s 2027 campaign continues on Sunday, October 18th with The Par 73 Championship, where registration closes October 10th, and again on Sunday, November 1st for The Race Against Daylight, with a registration deadline of October 25th. Proudly growing the game in Orlando.
