Henry Horton State Park played host to the Nashville Chapter’s tournament on Saturday. 77 players across 5 divisions competed for trophies and gift cards.
In Division One, the back nine was the deciding factor as over half the field made the turn all with one shot of the lead. Justin Lee made 3 birdies on the inward nine to shoot 35 and win by 4 strokes over Dakota Woodcock. The win marks Lee’s first victory on the Amateur Players Tour.
In Division Two, Dan Estes made the turn at +4 and trailed the leaders by two strokes. He then made 3 birdies coming in and finished his last nine holes with a 1 under par 35 to win by 4 strokes. John Hipp and Michael Romine from the Birmingham Chapter both finished their rounds at 7-over 79 to finish in a tie for second place.
In Division Three, Jack Buckley was the leader in the clubhouse with his 7-over round of 79 and had to sweat it out waiting for the rest of the division to finish their round. Bryan Harwell and Peyton Massey made it close, but finished their rounds at 9-over 81 to finish in a tie for 3rd place. Buckley’s last challenger, Adam Corona was at the top of the leaderboard for most of the day, but a late bogey on the par 4 17th hole dropped him in to 2nd place. The win is Buckley’s second on tour this season.
In Division Four, Birmingham Chapter member, Benny Shepard, ran and hid from the field posting an 11-over 83 to capture his victory on tour. David Smith and John Kelsey both had Jekyll-and-Hyde nines to finish in a 2nd place tie.
In Division Five, extra holes were needed to decide the winner. At the end of his round, Sean Cawood sat in 4th place with his round of 87. That did not last long. David McDow’s score on the closing hole, push him in to a tie with Cawood and both sat in a 3rd place tie. Thurman Boyd and Andy Nichols were tied at the top until the last hole as both made double to push them both out of a playoff and into a tie for 3rd. Cawood and McDow went to the playoff, which lasted two holes. Cawood was able to secure the win on the par 3 2nd hole.
In the Senior Net competition, David McDow posted net even par 72 to take the victory. James Newkirk and Thurman Boyd both finish 3 strokes back in a tie for 2nd place.
