Birmingham Recap (Limestone Springs — Chamber of Commerce Day)
One of the premier flighted amateur golf tournaments in North Alabama brought players from across Birmingham, Huntsville, and beyond to Limestone Springs, where firm and fast fairways paired with hard greens and tricky pin locations created a true test. In a professionally-run golf tournament near you, scoring conditions demanded precision and patience, and across every division, players had to earn every stroke.
Division 1 saw longtime tour stalwart Ed McDugle make the trip from Memphis and continue his dominant season, capturing his third victory with a 2-over 74. On a day where scoring was anything but easy, McDugle separated himself with steady play, finishing ahead of Matt Mitchell (Nashville), who posted a 3-over 75, while Birmingham’s Jay Hayes rounded out the top three at 4-over 76. With the course pushing players to the edge, experience proved to be the difference at the top.
In Division 2, Lucas McCullar finally broke through in his second season, earning his first APT victory with an 8-over 80. After knocking on the door, McCullar handled the demanding conditions better than the field, holding off Joseph Lacy (11-over 83) and Matt Lyndoe (14-over 86). It was a long-awaited win that signals a new name to watch in the North Alabama rotation.
Division 3 belonged to Greg Mason, who continued his strong season with a 12-over 84 victory, marking his second win and fifth top-five finish of the year. Mason once again proved his consistency, outlasting Rusty Martin (13-over 85) and Russell Wise (15-over 87) on a course that punished mistakes. His steady presence near the top of leaderboards continues to define his season.
In Division 4, Birmingham veteran Jeff Noel battled through the conditions to secure his first victory since being promoted at the end of 2024. His 16-over 88 was enough to edge a tightly packed group, with Martis Black, Jose Anthony Ramos, and Andrew Aderholt all tying for second at 19-over 91. Noel’s win reflects both persistence and adjustment at a higher level.
Division 5 saw Todd Gober continue his incredible run, capturing his second victory of the season with a 16-over 88. Gober held off Joshua Baker (19-over 91) and Leon Goodson (26-over 98), extending his lead in the Player of the Year race. His consistency across difficult setups continues to separate him from the field.
Gober’s day didn’t end there, as he also secured his third Senior Net title of the season, further showcasing his dominance across formats. In Mid-Am Net, Rusty Martin stayed hot, earning his second consecutive victory and continuing to build momentum within the division.
Across North Alabama, you had to earn it this week. Limestone Springs delivered a demanding test, and those who managed the conditions best rose to the top in another strong showing for the Amateur Players Tour.
