Dramatic Playoffs, Big Performances Highlight Elevated Event at Atkins Golf Club

The Central Illinois Amateur Players Tour made its way to one of the premier venues in the Midwest on Sunday, as players competed at Atkins Golf Club in Urbana, Illinois — the proud home of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini golf teams — for one of the chapter’s biggest events of the season.

As an Elevated Event, competitors battled not only for trophies and bragging rights, but also for double Player of the Year points and an increased prize pool, with a total of $6,680 paid out across all divisions, net competitions, skins, and on-course contests.

The day featured incredible drama at the top of the leaderboard, including back-to-back three-man playoffs, standout performances across multiple divisions, and one player walking away as the biggest winner of the entire tournament.

Division 1 – Mitch Myers Wins Dramatic Two-Hole Playoff

The day started with fireworks in Division 1, where Mitch Myers (Argenta, IL) outlasted Josh Anderson and Jason Anglin in a thrilling three-man playoff after all three players finished regulation tied at 77 (+5).

The playoff began on Hole 6 (Par 5), where Myers and Anderson both made par while Anglin was eliminated after making bogey.

The battle then shifted to Hole 7 (Par 4), where Myers stayed steady with another par while Anderson made bogey, giving Myers the Division 1 title after two extra holes.

    Top Finishers:

    1. Mitch Myers – 77 (+5)

    T2. Josh Anderson – 77 (+5)
    T2. Jason Anglin – 77 (+5)

Division 2 – Alex Cronin Birdies Playoff Hole to Claim Victory

As if one dramatic playoff wasn’t enough, Division 2 immediately followed with another three-man playoff, with Alex Cronin (Pekin, IL), Darcy Boyles, and Ty Jones all finishing tied at 75 (+3).

On the very first playoff hole — Hole 1, a Par 5 — Cronin stepped up and delivered the shot of the moment, carding a birdie 4.

Boyles could only manage par, while Jones made bogey, giving Cronin the victory in instant fashion and capping off one of the most exciting finishes of the season.

    Top Finishers:

    1. Alex Cronin – 75 (+3)
      T2. Darcy Boyles – 75 (+3)
      T2. Ty Jones – 75 (+3)

Division 3 – Jeremy Miller Takes Home Biggest Payday of the Day

The biggest individual performance of the tournament belonged to Jeremy Miller (Arthur, IL).

Miller captured the Division 3 title after firing a steady 79 (+7), finishing two shots ahead of the field to secure the outright victory.

But that was only the beginning.

Miller also won one of the day’s Closest to the Pin contests on Hole 17, sticking his tee shot to 13 feet to claim an additional $415 prize. Add in another $118 in skins, and Miller finished the day with a tournament-best $1,013 in total winnings, making him the biggest winner of the event.

    Top Finishers:

    1. Jeremy Miller – 79 (+7)
      T2. Jason Stone – 81 (+9)
      T2. Cleat Davis – 81 (+9)

Division 4 – Edward Pavese Dominates and Doubles Up

Edward Pavese (Mattoon, IL) put together one of the strongest performances of the entire tournament, cruising to the Division 4 championship after posting 80 (+8) and winning by an impressive five-shot margin.

    But Pavese wasn’t finished.

He also captured the Senior Net Championship, firing an outstanding net 66 (-6) to complete a two-win day and become one of the event’s biggest overall performers.

    Top Finishers:

    1. Edward Pavese – 80 (+8)
    1. Jodi Ferguson – 85 (+13)

    T3. Chase Runyon – 86 (+14)

Division 5 – Bill Brewner Earns Hard-Fought Victory

In Division 5, scoring conditions proved difficult throughout the day, but Bill Brewner (LaRue, TX) stayed ahead of the field and secured the championship with a round of 96 (+24).

Brewner finished three shots ahead of runner-up Myron Schroeder to claim the title.

After coming painfully close to winning Division 3 earlier in the day, Cleat Davis (Taylorville, IL) rebounded nicely by capturing the Mid-Am Net Championship.

Davis posted a stellar net 69 (-3) to finish atop the field and secure another trophy after narrowly missing out on the division title.

    Top Finishers:

    1. Cleat Davis – 69 Net (-3)
    1. Tracy Behrle – 70 Net (-2)

Senior Net – Pavese Completes Double Victory

Already a Division 4 champion, Edward Pavese added another trophy to his collection by winning Senior Net with a superb 66 Net (-6).

    Closest to the Pin Winners

Two Closest to the Pin contests added even more excitement to the Elevated Event, with **$415 awarded on each hole.

    • Hole 13 – Ethan Anderson
Stuck his tee shot to 4 feet, 11 inches to claim the prize.

    • Hole 17 – Jeremy Miller
Hit his shot to 13 feet and added another payday to his already outstanding day.

    Looking Ahead

The Central Illinois chapter now shifts its attention to the next stop on the schedule as players head to The Rail Golf Club in Springfield, Illinois on July 12.

After an action-packed Elevated Event at one of college golf’s premier facilities, the race for Player of the Year points continues to heat up as the summer schedule rolls on.
