Persimmon Woods Delivers Tight Finishes as Player of the Year Races Continue
The St. Louis chapter returned to Persimmon Woods Golf Club for another stop on the Jay Delsing Series, with players competing not only for division victories, but also valuable Autohaus BMW Player of the Year points as the season continues to gain momentum.
Warm conditions and another full field produced competitive golf throughout the day, including a playoff in Division 5 and several divisions where just a handful of shots separated the leaders.
Division 1 saw Dylan Davidson put together the round of the day, carding an even-par 71 to earn the victory. Ryan Eckelkamp continued his strong season with a runner-up finish at 73 (+2), while Player of the Year leader John Toddadded another solid performance with a third-place finish at 76 (+5). Todd’s consistency continues to pay dividends as he looks to maintain his lead atop the Division 1 standings heading into the second half of the season.
In Division 2, Matt Borgmeyer claimed the win after posting a 74 (+3). David Adams finished second with a 76 (+5), while Justin Robinson, Collin Beffa, and current Player of the Year leader Michael Lingenfelter shared third at 77 (+6). With just over 50 points separating Lingenfelter and Todd Feuerhaken entering the event, every finish continues to carry extra weight in one of the chapter’s closest Player of the Year races.
Division 3 belonged to Cory Newman, whose 79 (+8) earned the victory over Mike Weigand, who finished one shot back at 80 (+9). John Malone rounded out the top three with an 81 (+10). The win gives Newman a timely boost as he continues to chase Division 3 Player of the Year leader Dustin Hunter, while the battle behind the leader remains tightly packed.
Division 4 featured another steady performance from Sam Loring, who captured the division title with an 80 (+9). Mike Scalera finished second, while Jason Shortt and Scott Clavenna shared third. Loring’s victory comes as the Division 4 Player of the Year race remains incredibly close, with only a handful of points separating the top contenders entering the event.
The closest finish of the day came in Division 5, where Roger Eberlein and Wayman Declue battled to matching rounds of 92 (+21). Eberlein ultimately secured the victory on the first playoff hole, extending what has already been a strong season and strengthening his hold on the Division 5 Player of the Year lead. Esther Flora and Dakota Mason shared third after each posted rounds of 93 (+22).
The net competitions also produced outstanding scoring.
In the Mid-Am Net, Sam Loring continued his impressive day by firing a tournament-best net 65 (-6) to earn another victory. Cory Newman followed at 66 (-5), while Matt Borgmeyer finished third with a 68 (-3), giving all three players a successful afternoon across multiple competitions.
The Senior Net division saw Mike Scalera post a net 65 (-6) to claim the win. Wayman Declue finished second at 68 (-3), while Steve Tripi, David Adams, and Michael Lingenfelter shared third after each carded net 69s (-2).
With another Jay Delsing Series event complete, the focus now shifts to the next stop on the schedule as the Autohaus BMW Player of the Year races continue to take shape. With several divisions featuring narrow margins at the top of the standings, every event—and every finish—will become increasingly important as the race toward season-ending honors continues.
