Anderson Sets Chapter Record as Players Battle Through Nearly 3½ Hours of Lightning Delays at Metamora Fields Golf Club

The Amateur Players Tour Central Illinois Chapter endured one of its longest days of the season Sunday at Metamora Fields Golf Club in Metamora, Illinois, where players faced not only a championship-caliber golf course but also multiple weather interruptions.

Play was suspended twice due to lightning in the area. The first delay lasted approximately two and a half hours, while a second stoppage added nearly another hour to the day. Despite the interruptions, competitors returned to complete the tournament and produced several memorable performances, including a chapter-record round, two first-time winners, and a pair of double champions.

Division 1 – Anderson Rewrites the Record Book

Josh Anderson (Sidney, IL) may have been the lone competitor in Division 1, but he delivered a performance that will be remembered for years to come.

Anderson fired a spectacular 64 (-7), establishing a new Central Illinois Chapter record for the lowest competitive round ever recorded. He opened with a 32 (-3) on the front nine and matched it with another 32 on the back.

His historic scorecard featured six birdies, one eagle, and just one bogey. After birdieing the par-5 3rd, Anderson’s only blemish came at the par-3 5th. He quickly responded with birdies on holes 6 and 7, added birdies on 9, 10, and 12, and punctuated the round with an eagle on the par-5 16th.

The result was a remarkable 64 (-7) that now stands as the benchmark for future competitors in the Central Illinois Chapter.

Division 2 – Burditt Capitalizes Late to Secure Victory

Ansel Burditt (Metamora, IL) captured the Division 2 championship with a steady round of 73 (+2), finishing three shots clear of the field.

Burditt’s round was built on consistency, recording 15 pars while limiting mistakes throughout the day. After a double bogey on the 12th threatened to derail his momentum, he responded with steady play down the stretch, including a critical birdie on the par-4 17th.

Chris Van Spankeren (Minonk, IL) and Reggie Livingston (Peoria, IL) shared runner-up honors at 76 (+5). Van Spankeren led the division with four birdies and remained within striking distance late in the round before a double bogey on the 17th created a three-shot swing in Burditt’s favor.

Sean Whitfield (North Utica, IL) finished fourth at 77 (+6), while Cody Redman (Rockport, IL) rounded out the top five at 78 (+7).

Division 3 – Margetich Breaks Through for First Career Victory

Thomas Margetich (Pekin, IL) earned the first Amateur Players Tour victory of his career, winning Division 3 with a round of 79 (+8).

Margetich was the only player in the division to break 80 and finished two shots ahead of Bradley Crawford (Bloomington, IL), who posted 81 (+10). Zachary Moore (Lincoln, IL) claimed third at 82 (+11), while Greg Mitchell (Findlay, IL) and Cleat Davis (Taylorville, IL) completed the top five.

The victory marks a significant milestone for Margetich in just his second season on tour and was the beginning of a memorable day.

Division 4 – Hodges Joins the Winner’s Circle

Greg Hodges (Normal, IL) became the second first-time winner of the day, claiming the Division 4 title with a round of 80 (+9).

Hodges separated himself from the field by three shots, finishing ahead of Robert Olsen (Ballwin, MO), who posted 83 (+12). Jodi Ferguson (Decatur, IL) took third place at 84 (+13), while Joshua Weeks (Champaign, IL) and Thomas Pongracz (Eureka, IL) rounded out the top five.

For Hodges, the victory represents the first APT title of his career and a breakthrough moment on tour.

Division 5 – Brickley Holds Off Schroeder

Division 5 produced one of the day’s closest finishes as Billy Brickley (Wataga, IL) edged Myron Schroeder (Downs, IL) by a single stroke.

Brickley carded a 90 (+19) to finish one shot ahead of Schroeder’s 91 (+20). Keith Schumacher (Mason City, IL) finished third at 95 (+24), followed by Kyle Jones (Auburn, IL) and James Sellner (Peoria Heights, IL).

The narrow margin made Division 5 one of the most competitive races of the day.

Mid-Am Net – Margetich Completes the Double

After capturing his first career Division 3 title, Margetich wasn’t finished.

The Pekin native added the Mid-Am Net championship with an outstanding net score of 61 (-10), finishing three shots ahead of Anderson’s net 64 (-7).

Joshua Weeks finished third at 68 (-3), while Jimmy Pulis, Zachary Moore, and Billy Brickley shared fourth place at even-par 71.

The Mid-Am Net victory completed a memorable double for Margetich and capped the best tournament performance of his young APT career.

Senior Net – Burditt Matches the Feat

Burditt matched Margetich’s accomplishment by completing a double of his own.

His net 68 (-3) earned the Senior Net title by a single shot over Sean Whitfield and Bradley Crawford, who tied for second at 69 (-2). Greg Mitchell finished fourth at 70 (-1), while Erik Moore rounded out the top five at 73 (+2).

With victories in both Division 2 and Senior Net, Burditt joined Margetich as the tournament’s two double winners.

    Closest to the Pin

Greg Mitchell (Findlay, IL) added to an already successful day by winning the Closest to the Pin challenge and taking home the $430 prize

A Marathon Day Produces Memorable Moments

While the nearly three and a half hours of lightning delays made for a long day at Metamora Fields Golf Club, the event ultimately produced several storylines that will be remembered throughout the season.

Josh Anderson rewrote the Central Illinois Chapter record book with a historic 64 (-7) featuring six birdies and an eagle. Thomas Margetich and Ansel Burditt each earned two victories, Greg Hodges celebrated his first career APT win, and Greg Mitchell walked away with the $430 Closest to the Pin prize.

When the final putt dropped after a day that stretched well beyond its scheduled finish, the perseverance of the players was rewarded with one of the most memorable tournaments of the 2026 Central Illinois season.

    Looking Ahead

The Central Illinois Chapter now turns its attention to the next stop on the schedule as players head to Pekin Country Club on Monday, June 15, for the next event in the chapter’s prestigious Country Club Series

Pekin Country Club has long been a favorite among Central Illinois players and will provide another stern test as competitors continue their pursuit of Division titles, Player of the Year points, and National Championship qualification. With several players carrying momentum from Metamora Fields—including record-setter Josh Anderson, double winners Thomas Margetich and Ansel Burditt, and first-time champions Greg Hodges and Billy Brickley—the stage is set for another exciting chapter in the 2026 season.
