Tournament Champions
WINCHESTER, Tenn. — Amateur Players Tour Nashville members faced changing conditions Saturday at Bear Trace at Tims Ford. Overcast skies, intermittent rain, brief sunshine and rising humidity made the demanding course an even tougher test across all seven competitions. When the final putts dropped, multiple divisions required extra holes or scorecard tiebreakers to determine champions, highlighting just how competitive the field was from top to bottom.
Division 1
The day’s most dramatic finish came in Division 1, where Nathan Calahan and Luke Maples each posted rounds of 3-over par to force a playoff. Calahan’s round featured birdies on Nos. 3, 5 and 16, helping offset six bogeys during regulation play.
Maples matched Calahan’s 3-over total with a steady performance that included a birdie at the par-4 14th and only four bogeys on his card.
With neither player able to separate themselves during regulation, the pair headed back to the course for a playoff. After four extra holes, Calahan finally secured the victory to capture the Division 1 title.
Division 2
Anthony Mancini put together one of the steadiest rounds of the day to win Division 2 with a 4-over-par 76. After an early double bogey on the fifth hole, Mancini responded with birdies on Nos. 10 and 14 and played the closing stretch in even par to maintain control of the division.
Tim Ewing finished runner-up at 6-over par. Ewing battled through a difficult start that included a double bogey on the second hole but remained in contention throughout the day thanks to a birdie on the 14th.
Todd Osinski and Vic Wolaver shared third place at 7-over par. Osinski overcame a pair of doubles early in the round, while Wolaver carded birdies on the opening hole and 16th to stay near the top of the leaderboard.
Division 3
Division 3 also required extra holes to crown a champion after Kenneth Smith and Philip DuBose both finished regulation tied at 11-over par.
Smith’s round was built on resilience. Despite opening with six bogeys through his first nine holes, he steadied himself on the back side and picked up birdies on Nos. 14 and 17 to claw his way into a share of the lead.
DuBose matched Smith shot-for-shot for much of the day. His card featured a birdie on the 13th and another on the 15th as he rallied late to force the playoff.
The extra session proved short-lived, however, as Smith secured the victory on the very first playoff hole.
Mark Hussain, Aaron Smith and Will Houston finished one shot back in a three-way tie for third at 12-over par. Aaron Smith’s round included a roller-coaster front nine highlighted by a triple bogey and double bogey before settling down on the inward nine. Houston mixed a birdie on the third hole with a steady collection of pars to remain in contention throughout the round.
Division 4
Lucas Wheeler separated himself from the field with a winning score of 12-over par. Wheeler weathered an early triple bogey on the second hole but kept mistakes to a minimum the rest of the way. Consistent play over the final nine holes allowed him to build a comfortable margin and earn the Division 4 title.
Brandon Jarrell finished second at 16-over par. His round featured a pair of birdies on Nos. 5 and 7, but several costly holes on the back nine prevented him from mounting a serious challenge for the lead.
Division 5
Michelle Martino completed the day with a 16-over-par round. Martino carded steady golf throughout the day, avoiding any major blow-up holes while grinding through difficult conditions. Her persistence was rewarded with the Division 5 championship.
Mid-Am Net
The Mid-Am Net competition saw Shawn Coleman claim first place at even par net. Coleman used a strong front nine highlighted by net birdies on Nos. 3 and 9 and followed with another pair of net birdies on the 10th and 15th to hold off the field.
Will Houston and Brandon Jarrell tied for second at 2-over net.
Senior Net
The Senior Net division produced another tightly contested finish as Anthony Todd, Vic Wolaver and Steve Trout all finished at 1-under net.
Todd was awarded first place via scorecard playoff, while prize money was divided evenly among the tied competitors in accordance with Amateur Players Tour rules.
Looking Ahead
The Nashville chapter now turns its attention to two upcoming June events, both featuring shotgun starts.
Players will next head to WillowBrook Golf Club in Manchester on Saturday, June 13, before traveling to Westhaven Golf Club in Franklin on Monday, June 29.
Registration is currently open for both tournaments. Players are encouraged to register early, as shotgun-start events often fill quickly and spots can become limited as tournament week approaches.
