Tournament Champions
A 64-player field at The Territory followed another strong turnout at Kickingbird, giving these events the two largest fields of the year. Players were excited for the opportunity to compete on one of Oklahoma’s premier golf courses. Across five divisions, competitors teed off under cloudy skies, facing a challenging layout made even more difficult by steady winds.
The highlight of the day came at the par-3 13th hole. In his first tournament, Thurman Lynch of Norman stepped up to the 168-yard shot, which plays over water with a bunker guarding the front of the green. Using a 7-iron, Lynch hit his shot above the hole onto a ridge. As the ball rolled back down, it found the cup for a remarkable hole-in-one—his second career ace.
The Amateur Players Tour offers a Hole-in-One Club for $30 per year. Members earn $500 for any ace, with one designated hole at each event paying out $2,500. Unfortunately, Lynch was not enrolled in the club, so he was not eligible for the prize money. Still, it’s a moment he will never forget. What a shot, Thurman!
D1- Cupp holds off Fees for his 2nd Victory on APT Tour
4 players in Division 1 began their shotgun start on No. 2. After the opening nine holes, Corey Cupp and Taylor Gossett were tied for the lead at 3-over, with Scott Fees trailing by three shots. Fees worked his way back into contention, playing the final nine in 3-over to post a 9-over 81.
Cupp appeared to seize momentum early on his second nine with a birdie on the par-5 11th, but a bogey followed by a triple bogey on holes 14 and 15 brought Fees back into the mix. Despite the late stumble, Cupp held on just enough to secure a one-stroke victory.
D2- Richard Rallies Late to Win Division 2 After Robinson Falters Down the Stretch
Division 2 featured the largest field of the day, with 16 players competing for three spots in the money. Joe Robinson began the round on hole #1 but stumbled early with a bogey on his second hole. He quickly recovered, nearly holing out a bunker shot from 150 yards and setting up a 10-foot birdie. Robinson steadied himself and went on to shoot an even-par 36 on the front nine.
Japheth Bennet played solidly early, completing holes 2 through 11 in 39 strokes, but struggled down the stretch and finished with an 82. Rob Richard stayed within striking distance, playing holes 4 through 12 at 3-over par, just three shots behind Robinson.
In Robinson’s group, Jordan Wesley sat at 4-over through nine holes, while Lance Boyd and Keith Tilghman were both at 5-over. Robinson extended his lead on the back nine with birdies on holes 10 and 11, moving to 2-under on the day. However, he ran into trouble shortly after, playing holes 12 through 17 in 8-over par to fall back to 6-over.
Tilghman found consistency on the back nine, opening with five straight pars before bogeys on 15 and 17 brought him to 7-over. Richard also stood at 7-over as he approached his final hole.
Coming down the stretch, Tilghman made a bogey and Robinson a double bogey on their final holes, leaving both players tied at 80. Richard closed in steady fashion, parring the 3rd hole (his 18th of the day) to secure the win in just his second APT tournament.
D3- Foster Holds Off Williams for Victory After Mulligan’s Early Lead Fades
With 14 players in the division, Bob Mulligan opened strong, playing holes 6–14 in 3 over, but faded on his final nine to finish with a 90.
Michael Foster’s 5-over stretch on holes 5–13 kept him in contention, while Jay Williams, fresh off his APT Masters win, sat just one shot back after playing holes 18–8 in 6 over. Williams closed in 7 over to take second.
Foster, at 1 over entering his final two holes, struggled late but still finished at 11-over 83—good enough to win by two shots over Williams.
D4- Helms rallies late to win by five as Niles, Chilson, and Hill settle for second.
Coming off a victory on Sunday, Landon Niles grabbed the early lead after his first nine holes. Playing holes 7–15, Niles posted a 9-over score to take a one-shot lead over Mark Helms, while Bill Chilson and Neil Hill sat two shots back. Chilson and Hill closed the gap over the final nine holes, each shooting 9 over, while Niles struggled with an 11-over finish. The three players ended the round tied for second place with scores of 92.
Meanwhile, Helms delivered a strong finish, shooting 5 over on his final nine holes. His late surge secured the win with a score of 87, giving him a five-stroke victory.
D5- Playoff Drama: Crabtree edges Pettifer after tight battle at The Territory
This division was the only one to require an on-course playoff to crown a champion. The five leading players in the 15-player field were tightly grouped throughout the round.
Jerry Crabtree of Tulsa surged to an early lead after playing holes 1–11 at 8 over par. Daniel Turkelson sat just one stroke behind, followed by Kade Hileman and Jared Cogburn at two strokes back. Richie Pettifer trailed by four strokes at 13 over par.
Pettifer, however, posted the best closing stretch in the division, playing his final nine holes at 7 over par to finish with a 92. Meanwhile, Turkelson, Hileman, and Cogburn struggled down the stretch, shooting 12, 13, and 14 over par on their back nine, respectively. Turkelson finished at 93, securing a third-place, in-the-money finish, while Hileman and Cogburn carded 95 and 96.
Crabtree faltered on his final nine holes, shooting 12 over par and finishing tied for first with Pettifer. The two headed to the first hole for a playoff, where Crabtree reached the green in two shots. Pettifer mishit his approach and failed to reach the green, allowing Crabtree to secure the title with a two-putt victory at the Battle at The Territory.
