Singh, Leonard, and Muraoka Battle Tough Conditions at Eagle Glen

CORONA, CA – The Riverside County Amateur Championship at Eagle Glen Golf Club on Saturday, May 9th, proved to be a true test of grit and patience. With course conditions less than ideal, tournament officials took the proactive step of allowing players to lift, clean, and place in the fairways to ensure fair play despite the challenging turf.

While the elements may have been difficult, the competition across all five divisions remained fierce, featuring dramatic finishes and high-stakes playoffs.

Division 1: Singh Grinds Out the Win

In Division 1, Satyajeet Singh of (Temecula, CA,) showcased his resilience. In a field where every stroke felt earned, Singh navigated the layout with a solid 81 to prevail as the Division 1 champion, holding off the field in the day’s toughest conditions.

Division 2: Leonard Takes it in Free Extras

The most dramatic finish of the afternoon occurred in Division 2, where Evan Leonard and Andres Viramontes (Murrieta, CA) finished their regulation rounds deadlocked with scores of 78.  Going out early, they were required to wait it out as Division 2 contender Jayson Huett was also playing well.  Jayson ended up 3 shots back, allowing Evan and Andres to head to a playoff.

The two headed back out for a sudden-death playoff. On the first playoff hole, Leonard found himself facing a daunting 12-foot par putt off the fringe to seal the victory. With the pressure on, he drained the putt to secure the title and the trophy.

Division 3: Muraoka weathers the Storm

Ken Muraoka looked like he was playing a different course early on, catching fire to sit at even par through 10 holes. Though the back nine proved more difficult, his early momentum carried him to an 81 and the championship.

He narrowly edged out Zack Jellsey, (Eastvale, CA) who finished just one stroke back with an 82. The leaderboard remained crowded at the top, with guest (and newest member) Robert Engar tying Tommy Sutera for third place with scores of 83

    Division 4: Lopez Dominates

In Division 4, Victor Lopez (Rialto, CA) turned in one of the most consistent performances of the day. His round of 84 gave him a comfortable cushion over the rest of the field, with Royce Jiang (Chino, CA)  taking home second-place honors after carding an 88

Division 5: Moore Prevails in Playoff

The drama wasn’t limited to the top divisions. In Division 5, Eddy Moore and Clark Decker found themselves tied at the end of 18 holes after both posted scores of 99. Much like the Division 2 finish, Moore found his gear in the playoff, carding a clutch par on the first extra hole to claim the win.
