Amateur Players Tour Partners with Player Development Index to Launch “Know Your Game” — A New Era of Player Development for APT Members
Tour members get a free self-assessment, smarter flighting, and a chance to win an entry to the 2026 North American Championship at We-Ko-Pa in Phoenix, AZ.
Phoenix, AZ — May 4th, 2026 — The Amateur Players Tour (APT) today announced a new partnership with Player Development Index (PDI), the golf industry’s only standardized measurement system for player development, to launch “Know Your Game” — a tour-wide initiative designed to help every APT member better understand their game, accelerate their improvement, and compete in fairer, more accurately flighted fields.
Through the partnership, every APT member will have access to PDI’s free self-assessment in the PDI app, with the option to upgrade to a Premium subscription for $50/year that unlocks personalized drills, development plans, and access to “Coach Pete,” PDI’s AI-powered development guide built on PDI’s proprietary framework.
Why PDI — and Why Now
PDI was developed at The Golf Performance Center in Ridgefield, CT, where Founder Roger Knick and his team spent more than a decade building a holistic, data-driven approach to player development. Rather than rely on stats — which only measure past results — PDI measures the lead factors that actually drive long-term improvement: golf skills, physical performance, mental game, and verified scoring. The result is a single 0–100 index that tells a player exactly where they stand and what to work on next.
Originally adopted by college coaches and junior programs as the standard for evaluating prospective student-athletes, PDI has rapidly expanded across the broader golf landscape. The PDI app surpassed 10,000 downloads within 60 days of launch, and the company has built partnerships with the National Junior Tour Powered by Under Armour, the NB3 National Championship, and the Junior Golf Hub. Now, through the APT partnership, that same development framework is being put directly into the hands of competitive amateur golfers nationwide.
What It Means for APT Members
The “Know Your Game” initiative is built around three goals:
- Real player development. For the first time, APT members will have a structured, app-based development tool that meets them where they are — whether you’re a low-handicapper fine-tuning to get to the winner’s circle more often, or a high-handicapper just trying to learn the game to enjoy it more.
- A community of improvement. APT has always been about competitive integrity and shared experiences. “Know Your Game” extends that ethos into how members train between events.
- Better flighting. PDI’s objective skill measurement gives APT a richer, more accurate picture of where each member’s game truly is — closing the gap between handicap and actual on-course skill, and helping ensure members compete in flights that match their ability.
Quotes
“PDI takes a very modern approach, but it’s centered in the timeless principles of golf — assessment, fundamentals, and consistent work. That’s exactly the kind of development platform we wanted for our members. With PDI, we’ll be able to better understand where our players are, flight them properly, and — most importantly — come alongside them to help them reach their golfing goals. This isn’t just a tool; it’s a partner in our members’ journeys.”
— Matt Minder, CEO & Co-Founder, Amateur Players Tour
“APT has built one of the most authentic competitive environments in amateur golf, and their members represent exactly the kind of dedicated, growth-minded players PDI was built for. Together, we’re giving thousands of golfers an objective look at their game and a clear roadmap for improvement. We can’t wait to see what APT members do with the data — on the range, in their training, and in the next event they tee it up in.”
— Eric Allen, CEO, Player Development Index
