The St. Louis chapter returned to action Monday at St. Clair Country Club in Belleville, Illinois, with another full slate of competition across five divisions, Mid-Am Net and Senior Net.
Low numbers were posted throughout the day, including the only under-par gross round of the tournament, while Division 1 needed four extra holes before a champion could be decided. When the final putt dropped, Carson Walton, Tim Koncki, Justin Wilson, Sam Loring and Sondra Braun had earned division victories.
Division 1
Division 1 provided the longest finish of the day, with Carson Walton and Justin Beaston both posting even-par rounds of 72 to force a playoff.
Neither player gave an inch early in extra holes. Walton and Beaston matched bogeys on the first playoff hole before each made par on the next two, sending the championship back to No. 1 for a fourth playoff hole.
This time, Walton made the difference. He carded a par while Beaston made bogey, giving Walton the Division 1 victory after four extra holes.
John Todd finished just one shot outside the playoff with a 73, while Matt Borgmeyer followed with a 75.
Division 2
Tim Koncki delivered the low gross round of the tournament and left little doubt in Division 2.
Koncki fired a 2-under 70, finishing as the only player across the five divisions to break par and taking the Division 2 title by three shots.
Kurt Seib claimed runner-up honors with a 73, while Michael Konuch remained close behind with a 74. Bob Manville and David Adams tied for fourth at 75.
Koncki wasn’t finished there, either. His day would also put him comfortably atop the Senior Net leaderboard.
Division 3
Justin Wilson separated himself from the Division 3 field with a 2-over round of 74, earning the victory by six shots.
Behind him, Scott Sahli and Chuck Schranck shared second after matching rounds of 80. Brian Chilton finished fourth with an 81, while five players tied for fifth at 82.
With plenty of traffic behind him on the leaderboard, Wilson’s 74 proved to be more than enough to take the top spot.
Division 4
Division 4 was much tighter, with Sam Loring holding off Jesse Baumann by a single shot.
Loring posted a 79 to set the number, and Baumann finished immediately behind him with an 80. Michael Raushenberger and Christopher Jones each shot 81 to share third, leaving the top four players separated by only two strokes.
Loring’s performance also translated to the Mid-Am Net leaderboard, where his net 68 placed him fourth.
Division 5
Sondra Braun came away with the Division 5 victory after posting an 86, finishing two shots clear of the field.
Dane Kearns took second with an 88, while Wayman Declue and Brett Schubert each posted 90 to share third.
Braun’s 86 was enough to create the separation she needed and secure the top spot in Division 5.
Mid-Am Net
The Mid-Am Net competition belonged to Jesse Baumann, who turned his Division 4 runner-up finish into a convincing victory in the net competition.
Baumann posted a net 65 (-7) to win by two shots over Kurt Seib and Thomas Agnew, who tied for second at 5-under 67.
Sam Loring followed at 4-under 68, giving him both a Division 4 victory and a fourth-place Mid-Am Net finish on the day.
Senior Net
Tim Koncki completed a big day at St. Clair by adding the Senior Net title to his Division 2 victory.
Koncki’s 70 translated to a 9-under net 63, giving him a three-shot victory and the lowest net score of the tournament.
Michael Raushenberger and Paul Spotanski shared second at 6-under 66. A six-player group finished tied for fourth at 2-under 70, including Bob Manville, Michael Lingenfelter, Dave Draucker, Michael Konuch, Brian Chilton and Mark Smith.
Between his 2-under gross 70 and 9-under net 63, Koncki walked away with one of the strongest performances of the day.
